Where

2877 University Ave. (same building as the North Park Theater) 92104

When

Family owned since 1931 =D

What

People probably don't even know thise place as the Pekin Cafe, becuase its got a large Chop Suey sign over the front doors.Old style Chinese restaurant. Family owned since the '40's I think. Looks, feels, and smells like a Chinese place from a black and white movie. Service is traditionally top notch.

Serves beer and wine.

Recommended

The Special Fried Won Tons are fried heaven. They have a ball of meat/spices/magic in the middle, great for dipping in sweet and sour sauce as provided. 14 per order. Three or four orders of these alone would make for a nice meal.

Egg rolls could definately be improved...needs more egg roll and less cabbage, you'll be chewing on these things forever.

The Orange Chicken is always magnificent, the chicken is well-selected and always fresh. Batters are light and uniform.

Another special mention for the Special Fried Rice. BBQ pork, shrimp, & bean sprouts thrown into it (tofu and other veggies available as a request), and its all kinds of yummy.

Oh! I didnt know what this place was called because of the affomentioned chop suey sign. We just call it "the chinese place right by the theater". However, the name might be murky but the stff are actually pretty nice and very helpful. The House Lo Mein is probably one of the best values in 92104.

Comments

Vegetarians should be warned that every dish here is made with chicken broth. There is virtually nothing at all veggie, so move along.
