I've got to disagree about Ranchos being nothing special, especially if you are looking for excellent vegan Mexican food. I think Ranchos and Pokez (in East Village) are the best vegan Mexican restaurants in San Diego. Ranchos has a much more comprehensive menu than Pokez, has two locations, and has better seating. Can't really talk about Mexican food that isn't vegan in San Diego, as I've been vegan the whole time I've lived here.
